How we diagnosed it
- Assessed soil, slope, drainage, gate weight and the practical route for power before anything was specified.
- Sized the operator to the gate weight and expected duty cycle with headroom, rather than to a price point — under-specifying is the most common cause of an installation that becomes an annual repair call.
What we did
- Set footings to proper depth and diameter for the soil conditions.
- Ran correctly sized conduit at depth that will survive future landscaping, with spare capacity for accessories added later.
- Installed photo-eyes to standard and commissioned the full system, including limit programming and a documented handover.

What you should take from this
Most of what an installation costs is invisible once it is finished. When one quote is dramatically cheaper than another, the difference is usually footing depth, conduit, and whether the safety devices are actually being installed. Those are precisely the things you cannot inspect afterwards.
